Rain... Rain.. RAIN! Walking in the rain, was a hoot today! We've been learning about Christs last week of his life and we visited all the places that major events took place at.
First stop: Bethany to see Lazarus' tomb.(John 11) This story is truly amazing to me. Christ was up in Galilee preaching when Mary came to him to tell of Lazarus' death. Jesus loved Lazarus so so much (vs.33-38) The famous verse "Jesus wept"), but He didn't drop everything that second to raise him from the dead, he waited 4 days until he went back. (vs.39) The Jews believed that the spirit of someone that died lingers for 3 days after their death, after that they are gone. John (vs. 1-3, 11-17) made a point that he waited so long to raise him from the dead so people could really know the power he had. (vs. 20-25)Mary and Martha loved him so so much, but they believed his power was limited, so this act of raising someone from the dead was a major, major deal among the society. The actual event of raising Lazarus takes place in verse 41-45. He thanks His Father for listening for the sake of those watching this event. They had already held the funeral, so everyone knew he was dead making it a huge deal. The timing of this was a critical time for Christ because one week later he was killed on Calvary(vs. 47-48,53). This could have been the time that Judas decided he was to betray Christ. The Jewish leadership was very upset about this and sought for both Christ and Lazarus's life because he was living proof of the power of God. Lazarus' tomb was really neat, slippery, wet, and... like a tomb! It's so neat being in the actual places of where these things happened. They're so significant, and I get to be there. It's still not real.

Bethphage (Bro. Judd says Beth-fa-gee, and others say beth-fage) is where Christ mounted the donkey before making his triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matt. 21:1-2). This was really another thing that the Jews and Roman leaders didn't like. It has been prophesied that a King would come to Jerusalem riding a donkey, people lining the streets with their clothing, and branches of psalm leaves (vs. 4-11), and shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest." The mounting stone was placed there in the crusaider timing, which they built it about waste high, Christ wouldn't have needed one that big for a donkey.
They led us on another adventure to see a tomb with a stone rolled over it. This was like a tomb that Christ would be in, which really put everything in perspective. I really enjoyed this tomb we had to trek to. Oh, and the wind and rain was CRAZY at this place. We lost our teachers and were locked inside the gates for a good 10-15 minutes shivering and laughing hysterically by the time they came to find us. We also saw a rainbow!!!
We scrambled down the mountain to the buses down a narrow steep road that had pretty much a flood gushing down it. Jacqueline and I made it down almost to the bottom when a car came zooming around the corner heading right through the river we were next to. He sped up and we faced the wall saying "oh no! oh no! oh no!" We got splashed all the way to our bums. We were really drenched and by that point I just gave up and went puddle jumping.
Next was the Cenacle, where it is well known for the location of the Last Supper (John 13-17). It's a gorgeous crusader building that Christ had planned out prior to actual the actual supper. This brought me back to Saturdays last supper fireside, and made me so much more grateful for the event that took place here. There is a niche that held the torah in this building that pointed to Golgotha, which everything else pointed to the Temple mount. It was very interesting, and two of our teachers brought it up.
We had a little bit of heal clicking on our way to the Dormition Abbey, which is famous for the place that Mary, the mother of Jesus lived and died. (Luke 2:34&35 simeons prophesy). We didn't actually get into the church, but when I went prior I really loved this church. It's so sacred and beautiful inside.
Megan H taught me the "Spider fighters" song (goes to the tune of "we are the gopher girls") that goes like this: "We are the spider fighters, we use our flash-lighters, we knock them to the ground, we spread their guts around. We pick of all their legs, and gather all the eggs, and when we have a bunch, they make a dandy lunch. Mmmm munch crunch, mmmm munch crunch, mmmm munch crunch, they make a dandy lunch!" We made out last bus drive to the JC and the view was spectacular. That view has been much loved, and desired when coming back from long field trips, and especially today from all the rain! We had a snuggle fest, watched The Princess and the Frog while playing Rummikub. Gosh, i'm so rusty. Lacey and Emma, you'd be ashamed of me. I took a two hour heavenly nap, had some din din, went to our farewell meeting of all the logistics, and Brother Chadwick gave a little lesson on the location of where the Book of Mormon took place. I came home to the best roommates ever. Jacqueline, Meredith and Tessa. I even got some free clothes melia was going to give away because she doesn't want to take them home... YES! Took a 40 minute (at least it felt like it) shower and chatted until midnight with Jacqueline. 2nd to last night with Tessera and Mer Bear!

Church of Paternoster meaning "Our Father" representing the traditional sight that Jesus gathered his disciples to tell them that there will be not one rock left standing on the temple(Matt 24). It got destroyed some 40 years after this prophesy. We met in a cave because we can't have devotionals in the This is also the place where the Lords Prayer took place (Luke 10 & Mark 11). There were tiles all over the church and cave we met in in every kind of language I never knew existed. I thoroughly enjoyed Icelandic language, Anglais (english) and Espagnol (spanish). Joseph Smith-- Matthew also takes place at this time. The JS-M version helps us understand who is saying what. Vs. 37 "May we avoid deception" "Treasure up my word."

Dominous Flevit has to be one of my favorites. It has a very high dome and incredible acoustics. This place is significant because it is in the Garden of Gethsemane, and one of the three churches there. It's famous for being the place that Christ wept over the city of Jerusalem. It is usually a wonderful sight to take pictures of the Dome of the Rock, but the rain prevented the beautiful view through the church window, but it also meant something to me as he really did weep over Jerusalem and I imagined his tears as it rained. It is also associated of where Christ left his disciples the second time, right before he atoned for the sins of the world. Brother Judd talked about what Christ said right as he was at the peak of suffering when he said "Not my will, but thine be done." How much love Christ had to say that. It's something that I will always ALWAYS strive to live.
