There's a couple holidays coming up and i'm stoked. Here are the ones coming up next:
It's Yom kippur eve and the Jewish community is getting ready for it. They have an absolute sabbath which there is no work, no traveling, and no driving including a 25 hour fast.
Yom= Day
Kippur= Covering 'Atonement'
Judaism doesn't believe in an expiatory atonement, or they don't believe anyone has to die for sin. The book of life you can't erase or cut out. The only way to get rid of the sins, if you are repentant, Christ could cover them or blot them out.
Sukkot is another holiday that is taking place 15-21 of Tishri of the Jewish calendar (Oct. 11-17) when we are in Egypt. This is the feast of tabernacles, also celebrated for "Booths" or "Huts" to remember the forty years in the wilderness. These booths are made of leaves and sticks and have to be able to see 3 stars out of the roof. So a roof that has space to see out. They stay in these huts for 7 days even today.
There are 4 species that the Lord commanded the Israelites to carry four species (branches)- Boughs= Hebrew Fruit, Date palm trees, Thick trees= myrtle and willow.
Here are some pictures and more here that we will see people carrying around today.
Great history lesson Megs the Jew. Thanks! Hmm...they sure put alot into their religion, eh?
